| BIOGRAPHY |
DaTURA was formed by its original members MaCKY
and KaORI during high school. KaNAKO joined them a few years later and after going
through several vocalists finally settled down to CaTHY in 1999 to make what DaTURA
is today.
They recorded two demos (none of which the members have in their possesion
now, haha) that attracted the attention of a small but friendly label. With them,
DaTURA recorded two songs in a compilation [ENIGMATIC PROGRESSIVE SAMPLER VOL.2],
then released a cd single [INNOCENT WORLD/BRING ME DOWN]. In November 2002, they
released their first album [DaTURA].
Starting off their tour at the basement floor of Shibuya Tower Records, the four
girls went around the Kanto and Kansai areas of Japan. Eight months later in July
2003, they released a split album [SELLOUT] with their long-time friends and
karaoke-loving band CULT OF PERSONALITY (RoadRunner Japan).
At the present moment, DaTURA is locked up in the cozy studio of Shimokitazawa
making songs and preparing to record their second album.
DaTURA with its powerful vocals, heavy guitar riffs, tight rhythm section and
added zest of the Indian santur is like no other girls' band in Japan. With an
average of three to five gigs a month in and around Tokyo, they continue to create
a new sound in the indie music scene.
